William Shakespeare (baptized 26 April 1564-23 April 1616) was an English poet and playwright widely regarded as the greatest writer in English language and the world’s pre-eminent dramatist. In this play, he showed how Juliet as a young lady, played her role and her characters in scene by scene, and it can influence the play’s outcome in his plays.

In the first play, Juliet is introduced as a young lady by her mother (Lady Capulet) while she is talking to the nurse about Juliet’s age. She says “She’s not fourteen” (act one - scene three), and it gives readers the perspective that Juliet is still young and immature. Then, when Lady Capulet talks about Juliet’s disposition of getting married, Juliet answers “It is an honour that I dream not of” (act one - scene three). It means that Juliet is never think about marry before, and it is in line with her age that she is still young and immature. Then, her mother talks again about Paris’s loves to Juliet, but she just replies that she will look at it first and does not give the answer whether she loves too or not until she meets Paris. It gives explanation that Juliet is obedient to her mother in putting in order of her life.

Then, on Capulet’s party, she meets Romeo and falls in love to him at first sight. But after she investigates and knows from the nurse that Romeo is from Montague, her family’s great enemy, she says “My only love sprung from my only hate! Too early seen unknown, and known too late!”(act one – scene five). In this scene Juliet knows that it is impossible to ally the two loves from two families in feud and it shows the contrast from the first portray of Juliet’s character that she is immature young lady. It seems that she has been mature in face the problem.

On act two – scene two, Juliet meets Romeo at the balcony. Then, after Romeo and Juliet vow their love for one and another, Juliet says to Romeo that if he is serious in making a relationship, just marry her in the day after. It proves that although Romeo is Montague and it seems impossible to marry with the son of Montague, she does not care of the effects in future in her decision. It mirrors her immatureness in making a decision without thinking first the effects in the future, whereas Romeo is the boy that she just knows for a few hours ago, and she does not know anything of Romeo’s characteristics except that he is a Montague and loves her so much. It also shows that Juliet is in hurry in making a decision. Then on the scene that Juliet is waiting very patiently for the nurse’s return, and finally after the nurse returns she becomes so irritate because the nurse deliberately the subject and delays in telling the news she has got from Romeo. When the nurse says “do you not see that I am out of breathe?" (act two – scene five), Juliet replies " How art thou out of breath, when thou hast breath To say to me that thou art out of breath?” (act two – scene five). Her response actually shows that she is impatient and also still labile in control her emotion. But finally after the nurse play on her, she gives the news to Juliet.

After Romeo has killed Tybalt, Juliet’s cousin, the nurse comes to Juliet and says that Tybalt is murdered by Romeo. This scene shows Juliet confusion of Romeo. In one side she hates Romeo because she has killed Tybalt, her cousin, but in other side she loves him very much. Then, after the nurse insults Romeo in front of Juliet by says “Shame come to Romeo” (act three – scene two), Juliet does not like it very much and she says “Shall I speak ill of him that is my husband?” (act three – scene two), and it shows her maturates which is so different from the first play.

Juliet is so glad when Romeo comes at night. But when Romeo leaves in the morning to hide from people, Juliet is back to her desperateness again and says that it is not yet the morning. After that, the nurse comes and tells that Juliet’s mother is coming and Romeo must leaves immediately. Then Romeo leaves Juliet’s house through the window in order he can leave undetected. Before Romeo leaves, Juliet has a vision of Romeo’s dead in a tomb and it makes her so sad.

Finally when Capulet is angry to Juliet’s refusal of marrying Paris, her mother and the nurse are also do not want to help Juliet in helping to refuse Paris. When she thinks of Romeo all the fears go away. She cares for Romeo so much that she is willing to take a chance or enduring those fears or not. On act 5 – scene 3, After Juliet wakes up from her sleep and see that Romeo is dead, she decides to join with him in the afterlife by stabling herself with his dagger. She prefers to die with her couple to live alone and without the couple she loves. Finally, by this evidence, the two family patriarchies agree to become friends by erecting golden statues of the other’s child.

In Romeo and Juliet play, Juliet is portrayed as a young, obedient and immature lady at some first scene. Besides, Shakespeare also portrays Juliet as an impetuous in her actions in the need for lust which is finally in the scene it will lead to a tragic end. In the middle of the play, she starts to show her change of characteristics. It is actually contrasts with her first characters and the events of the past few days have changed Juliet to be the mature and disobedient young lady. Because of her loves to Romeo and to avoid from the marriage of Paris, he asks to Friar Laurence to give her a potion so that she appears as a dead-person and after she wakes up she can live happily with her husband without any detected from her family. The fact, after she wakes up then see finds Romeo has died in her side because of drinking a poison. Then she decided to join with Romeo by kill herself. Finally the two family patriarchies agree to become friends because of that tragedy.
